Been using a site called LingQ over the weekend. There are lots of listening resources on this site, with scripts that you can check off the vocab you know, and highlight for review the words you don't. It's fun to listen to some real-life conversations on the podcasts, and you get a much better feel for the language with the longer transcripts than with say the one-sentence examples you get with the SRS (Spaced Repitition Software) like Smart FM.
So, I've kind of put the SRS on the back-burner for now. Actually, I'm just waiting for the moment LingQ tell me I have to start paying for their service, then I'll probably be back on the SRS.
I'm glad you are enjoying the site. I'm curious to know why you would not be willing to pay $10 a month to improve your Japanese and Chinese. You obviously are very dedicated to it and I have to assume you are spending money on some resources for your learning. If the service is effective and helps you, why would you not pay just because it is on the internet?

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. Actually, that bit about paying for the service was said a bit tongue-in-cheek. I am a bit hesitant about spending money on online resources—I guess I'm still a bit old-fashioned in that sense—but LingQ certainly does seem to be worth $10 a month. So I am considering it. I'm just not sure when I'm going to be asked for it yet, so I'm enjoying the free stuff while it lasts.
